The game of basketball. My love of the game. By 2 Buck Chuck.
1. How I Started.
People would always look at me as a kid , & say “Boy you are tall, you should play basketball, however at the time I was not into it. At school all People talked about was sports, & particularly basketball. Like who’s better Jordan Bird, or Magic. At a certain point I thought I’d give it a shot. So I would play everyday at school w the P.E ball in the morning during the nutrition and lunch break. After the 1991 NBA Finals I was hooked.
2. My Journey
I started at 15 years old w no prior athletic experience but this did not deter me. I developed into a decent athlete but unfortunately I did not play high school basketball. I attended Junior College, & played one full season, & also played in some spring & summer league games. After college I played in a few rec leagues, & I still play till this day. In my playing days I was very raw. but I didn’t really learn the skills until my early thirties, but I am very fundamentally sound. I can play anywhere skill wise, but in my experience I’m great at Street ball.
3. My favorite teams throughout the years.
a. College:
The North Carolina Tarheels in the 90s, Duke w Grant Hill, Christian Leatner, & Bobby Hurley. UCLA w The O’Bannon Brothers, and Tobey Bailey. U Conn w Elton Brand & Mateen Cleaves. Now it’s USC go Trojans!
b. NBA:
The Micheal Jordan lead Chicago Bulls were awesome no cap, it was like having a super hero that came through every time. 2008 Houston Rockets, 2000 Lakers, the 1988 Lakers, & the 1986 Boston Celics were great as well. Now it’s all about The Lakers.
c. Olympics:
Can’t go wrong w The Dream Team in 1992, & The Redeem w Kobe, & Le Bron.
4. My favorite players.
Hot Sauce from The And 1 Mixtape had insane handles, don’t tell him but I stole some of his moves. Micheal Jordan of course. Tracy Mc Grady, Kobe Bryant(RIP), Allen Iverson watch the crossover, Grant Hill, Jayson Williams my favorite point guard ever, Dirk Nowinkski, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson show time baby, & Kevin Durant he has the best crossover for a big man.
5. Conclusion
Basketball has had a tremendous impact on my life, as it teaches hard work, team spirit, & an attitude to respect the game, & your opponent, but always play to win. Most important have fun while exercising. Basketball has gone from a recreational sport in the winter in Springfield Massachusetts to a Global phenomenon. The game will always have a special place in my heart, & in the hearts of millions worldwide. Till next time 2 Buck Chuck is signing out.
